PRIDE CHOIR

Out Montclair and Union Cong Pride Choir have partnered to launch an inclusive LGBTQ+ community choir. The purpose of Pride Choir is to provide a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community to gather, be celebrated, and make music together.

Instilled with a culture of diversity and inclusion, the Pride Choir will foster acceptance and entertain audiences with inspiring musical performances. There is no audition required for entrance into the ensemble. Pride Choir gatherings will take place at Union Congregational Church at 176 Cooper Avenue in Montclair, New Jersey.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT PRIDE CHOIR:

Peter Yacobellis
Executive Director, Out Montclair

“Art and music are some of the most powerful tools queer people have for expressing themselves. Singing can be cathardic. Being part of a choir fosters comaraderie and relationship-building. With all of these factors considered, it was a no brainer that we would want to partner with Union Congregational to launch this new, exciting Pride Choir."

John David Whitener

Music Director, Pride Choir

"Even the smallest of voices can tear down walls when joined together and that's why I am thrilled to be a part of the beginning of Pride Choir! In a world that seems to be taking steps backward, I believe this ensemble can be a large step forward. I hope that it becomes a place where all LGBTQIA+ folks feel welcome to make music together and, in so doing, feel more seen."

Rev. Katrina Forman

Minister, Union Congregational Church

“As lawmakers press to pass anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ+ legislation around the country, Pride Choir is a way to fight hate with joy, and to create the kind of space of celebration, belonging and community that God desires for all people, regardless of their religious belonging or belief,” said Rev. Katrina Forman, minister at Union Congregational Church. “For all of us, Pride Choir can inspire us and remind of what humanity can be at its best.”
